The main structures, materials and organization of work on the installation of the contact network and overhead power lines are considered, as well as issues related to major repairs of the most critical nodes of the DC and AC contact network of electrified railways of the Russian Federation. For the first time, the application of self-supporting wires on 6(10) kV overhead lines is highlighted. Basic information on safe methods of constructing a contact network and overhead lines is provided.
